The bake-oven side of a Temp-Cast core with see-thru and bake-oven option, soapstone facade and heated bench located in Groton, MA. The chimney is separated from the fireplace by 20" creating the wood storage space. The small handle below the left side of the door is a damper controling the direct connection to the chimney. There is an alternate connection to the chimney runnung through the bench on the opposite side (see next photo). When this damper is in horizontal position the direct connection is open allowing the flue gases to go directly to the chimney. This damper is opened at the beginning of the burn giving the flue gases the path of least resistance to the chimney. After a short while when the flue has been heated and the chimney draft augmented, this damper can be closed diverting the flue gases through the alternate channel in the bench. The total length of the bench channel is about 8'.
