A standard Temp-Cast fireplace with raised hearth located in New Ipswich, NH. The facade stone is corinthian granite in a random pattern. This is the same stone variety as that shown in the first photo but the shapes and sizes of the stone are random. The thickness of the stone ranges from about 3 1/2" - 6" which is ideal for a stone facade. A thicker facade would inhibit the transfer of heat to the surface making the fireplace slower to respond. The single flue chimney is separated from the fireplace by 24" creating a wood storage space. Creating a wood storage space in this way adds little top the overall cost. Separating the chimney from the fireplace also allows the heat on that side of the fireplace to radiate into space rather than being blocked by the chimney. Because of the height of the cathedral ceiling the facade was built 2 feet higher than the top of the core making the dimension of the installation more in proportion with the space it occupies. The welded steel arched door was custom made by Thermal Mass Inc. The glass dimension is 20" wide and 20" to the top of the arch. The surface of the raised hearth is 16" above the floor. The heater core started at floor level so that the bottom of the door is close to the surface of the raised hearth which in this case conformed to the clients wishes. See the photo of the used brick custom firebrick core for a variation of the relationship between raised hearth and door.
