A standard Temp-Cast fireplace with stone facade in Essex, VT. The red stone is indigenous to that area and was supplied by the customer. The grey granite also supplied by the customer came from nearby Barre, VT. The nature of the stones available for the job was not known in advance. The pattern created by the two colors evolved on site as the design evolved. The red stone is laid with tight joints to give a dry laid appearance. The double flue chimney is behind the woodbox. The core was elevated by concrete block on the base pad because of the split level floor making the distance from the floor to the bottom of the door 8" higher than its normal 16". The ceiling height is about 10'. The facade is built almost 4' higher than the top of the core through an opening in the ceiling. The fireplace was capped by a slab of flagstone laid flush with the finish floor upstairs. This slab provides a warm surface on the second floor.
